Can you tell us a little bit about Deceive?
Deceive is the seventh book in my YA fantasy series
featuring the Estilorian world. The story centers on the third
generation of Estilorians, but many of the readers' favorite
characters from earlier in the series are in the book, too. The two
main characters in Deceive are Eden and Connor, and they're
from two classes that may surprise some Estilorian fans. Such a
pleasure to write!
Do you remember the title of
the first story you wrote?
The first book I ever completed with the hope of publishing it
was called Enticing. It was a historical romance/pirate
adventure novel. While I'd never publish it in its current form, it
may eventually get polished up and published as an adult title. Only
time will tell!
What is your work schedule like
when you’re writing?
I work full time, so my writing is done in the evenings and on
weekends. When I'm heavily into a project with a deadline set, my
family hardly ever sees me. That's why I tend to take a couple of
months off between projects, so I can spend more time with them.
Where do you find inspiration?
As with many writers, I find inspiration everywhere. It might
come from a news story I read, a snippet or quote I see on social
media, an experience shared with me by one of my friends, or a
random thought as I'm walking my dog in the evening.
What have you learned about
publishing that you didn’t know about when you first started writing?
I went into self-publishing blissfully ignorant of the massive
amount of marketing and networking needed to be successful as an
author. When I published the Daughters of Saraqael Trilogy in 2011,
I had about 100 Twitter followers and 10 Facebook friends, most of
whom were my family members and friends. I got lucky and started
interacting with other indie authors right away, learning as a went
along. The publishing world has only gotten bigger and more
competitive since then. If you self-publish now without any network
to support you, you're unlikely to sell books. It's kind of a cart
before the horse situation. If I had known that before I published,
I would have been active on social media for months before I
published.
What do you like to do when you’re
not writing?
When I'm not writing, I enjoy reading, watching Netflix with the
family, visiting the beach or local theme parks, swimming, and
shopping (often for more books!).
Can you tell us about your
future projects?
I've got a number of projects in the pipeline, including two more
New Adult contemporary romances and a New Adult futuristic mystery
series. I'm excited about all of them. Now I just have to get them
written!

Great interview! I was lucky to have Raine among my first Twitter friends and I've loved getting to know her over the years. Love her writing and can't wait for her upcoming work (and that Pirate Adventure!).
