Can you tell us a little bit about your books?
I
write Dark YA, usually with a supernatural twist. My books are about
how our decisions shape who we are with a bit of horror and romance
thrown in for good measure. I've added the link to my Amazon page below.
Do
you remember the title of the first story you wrote?
Wow...that would
be back in high school, twenty-something years ago. I'm that old. It was
a fantasy story called Vendieja about a girl who saves a boy and wins
the heart of the kingdom. There's a lot of swords and dragons too.
What
is your work schedule like when you’re writing? I'm a binge writer.
Once a story gets caught in my brain I can't get rid of it until I write
it down. So I keep a very strict writing schedule during those binges. I
have a day job which usually fills my time 9-5. I do all my mommy
duties until 8:30pm, when I put my little ones to bed, and then I write until midnight. I do try to sneak in writing time during lunch or other available times, but I consider those times "extra" time.
Where
do you find inspiration?
Everywhere. I have this "what if" disorder.
What if an angel attracts evil? What if a demon has to save a group of
delinquents? What if two friends are abducted, one survives.
Yeah...those were the start of my books. The inspiration usually comes
in one scene and one character and I build from there.
What
have you learned about publishing that you didn’t know about when you
first started writing?
Being an author is not just about writing. Sure,
you need to write something that other people want to read, but it's
also marketing, touring, putting yourself out there. Not just your book,
but you. The reality is very much different than what I thought it
would be.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Spending time with my family.
Can
you tell us about your future projects?
I just finished a major
rewrite on a YA Science Fiction novel! Woohoo! And I'm currently working
on book 3 of the Second Sign series.
