Why I'll never call myself a Feminist

I'm sharing this on here, because after writing this on my private Facebook wall, someone told me I should share it as a blog post.

Just know that this is my very unpopular opinion, which got me censored from a friend's thread, because she didn't like that I said Feminism and the "Sisterhood," is bullshit. So you've been warned..

I'm going to share my unpopular opinion about Feminism and the "Sisterhood." I'm doing it here because it was deleted from a thread where I had a civil discussion. Still, my friend didn't like my "negativity."  I guess I will ruffle even more feathers on my wall.

But I have a genuine concern. This doesn't mean that I hate feminism or the sister. I just think that it's bullshit.

There I repeated it. This time on my own wall where no one could delete it simply because people "feel called out" and think  I'm mean and disrespectful.

Now that that is out of the way hear me out.

There's a hilarious meme about Nikki versus Taylor where some woman, no doubt a Gen Xer like me, felt the need to point out that Taylor Swift is whiny and writes shitty songs. I respect the opinion though I disagree. Her songs are pretty catchy, and if you ask me about most of the current young singers in her age range, I can't name a single piece by them. But I can name all of her songs, even the country ones, but I digress.

The meme shits on Taylor because Nikki made the ex play on her songs which disparaged him. I'm pretty sure he had no option since he was part of the band, but okay.

Full disclosure, I did find the meme funny. I might have shared it too because I thought it was funny in a mean way. And true to form, I love the mean stuff that makes me laugh. Sue me.

But again, I have to get to the topic at hand. Why do I hate this so-called Sisterhood so much?

Well, there's no real sisterhood, is there? You can't have a sisterhood when women, grown or young, are constantly shitting on other women for their choices. Or, in the case of Tay Tay, her music and all decisions involving that.

Why are women so bitchy? Do they forget that people like John Mayer also do this crap? And y'all are crying to his songs and singing them at the top of your lungs. Not saying how mean his lyrics are or how he's making money off of failed relationships, blah blah.

Every author uses personal experiences to infuse their writing. We put things to paper that we would never otherwise voice. And we sometimes let our characters speak those words because we know they're important and can help someone out there who is going through the same thing.

You don't have to like Tay Tay's music to appreciate her savvy business mind or how well she can write a hook in a song that will stay with you for years (I'm looking at you Shake it off).

A true sisterhood would embrace all people and respect all people. True feminism is about lifting people up, all people, not just women, but men too. It's about respect. And that's something that is seriously lacking.

So what if she decided to release the 10 min song of All too well now? Do you know why? This is the original song. The original version of the song was recorded when she started playing guitar, and her musicians joined in. Her mother had the forethought to ask the sound engineer to record it because it might be a song Taylor would want to work on. And since she's re-recording her old music, she decided to include it in the album. This is how she has to claim her old albums, her work, back.

I doubt that any of my friends who are Artists, Authors, Musicians have a problem with that concept. We all want to own our art and make sure that it's protected.

You don't have to like her music, you don't have to like her as a person, but shouldn't you, as a "feminist" and a member of the "sisterhood," at least not tear her down?
